After trying every avenue I still found myself severely depressed and anxious most of the time. I functioned but only with lots of difficulty. I always felt everyone knew, could tell it by looking at me and thus I kind of kept to myself. After so many years of debilitating depression I have lost many friends, closeness to my family and made my relationship with my husband very difficult. I have felt very isolated and alone for a long time. I have had limitations such as socializing-it became so difficult that I gave up trying anymore to socialize.

I definitely feel stronger and not so fearful all the time. My biggest lesson I have learned from the program and that have helped me the most are: under-reacting to all the things I always over-reacted to. Yes, I am a sensitive person so I found myself over reacting to a lot. I also expected so much from so many aspects of my life. I have lowered my expectations and that has really helped. I tend to want things perfect but now tell myself how foolish it is to strive for perfectionism when I can feel the anxiety it brings. Lesson #2 has taken me a while to totally grasp... when those scary feelings come I immediately take notice of my body symptoms and recognize it for what it is. ,Accept-float-breathe, think of something positive, distract... I use the suggested tool, worry time, it works...I remember Carolyn advising us not to chase thoughts down to see how scary they get...I remember Ken saying, "Thoughts, just thoughts."

I now have volunteered for so many things that my life is becoming fuller everyday. I want to be around people. I want to renew friendships. I want to live life to the fullest again. My husband and I are going on an Alaskan Cruise in September and I can hardly believe it after 42 years of marriage. I walk every morning 3-4 miles, that really, really helps. I eat what is recommended, no sugar, caffeine, alcohol or white flour. I do the relaxation tape 1-2 times a day and my spiritual life has deepened and brought me more peace than I ever hoped to attain.

Thank all of you for all you do to help folks like me with depression and anxiety. I feel so close to you Lucinda after listening to the Relaxation tape every day for 365 days and watching the CD's of you talking to me. You have helped me to see that I am not the 'weirdo' I thought I was... The program is worth every penny I have invested-I am so much better!!!!
