Ativan

Ativan is one of the class of drugs known as benzodiazepines. Other benzodiazipines include Halcion, Klonopin, Valium and Xanax.

Function of Ativan

Ativan is a central nervous depressant which is used to slow down the nervous system in order to ease anxiety. Ativan can be useful short-term treatment for insomnia. Ativan is a useful anxiolytic, but it is not a long-term solution to anxiety. Many people taking Ativan for severe anxiety will also need other long-term therapies, such as psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, that may help them make changes in their lives and thought patterns that create anxiety.

Drug Interactions and Side Effects with Ativan

Ativan may contain products that will provoke an allergic reaction. If you have specific allergies, you should alert your doctor before taking Ativan. Taking Ativan for too long during pregnancy may cause the fetus to become dependent upon it. Ativan should not be taken with other drugs that depress the central nervous system, including alcohol, and never with the Itraconazole or Ketoconzole class of drugs. Since Ativan is a depressant, usage of this drug may result in depression or exacerbate depressive symptoms. Other side effects may include confusion or drowsiness. If you are experiencing any of these effects, consult your doctor for an adjustment.

How to Take Activan

Adults and teenagers usually take 1 to 3 milligrams per day orally. A doctor should be consulted to determine the best dosages for children and the elderly. If you miss a dose of Ativan, you may take it up to an hour adter the scheduled time. Skip the dose if it has been more than one hour. Keep the medication away from heat and direct sunlight

About Anxiety

While anxiety is typically a healthy, normal reaction to stress, in some cases it can become overwhelming and out-of-proportion to the situation. Anxiety can manifest itself through panic disorder, phobia or obsessive-compulsive behavior. In these cases, the level of anxiety can become so crippling that it is impossible to function. When this happens, pharmacological intervention is often useful. It is usually a short-term solution, however. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been an effective treatment for anxiety issues, especially phobias. Medication is typically used to get anxiety symptoms temporarily under control so patients can get the help they need to deal with the root of their problems.

"I had been on medication for ten years prior to using the Attacking Anxiety and Depression Program. Ten years and even my psychiatrist said I may have to be on drugs for the rest of my life. Now without medication I feel wonderful. The Attacking Anxiety and Depression Program was a miracle for me." - Ginny

So there I was, a nurse, working in the emergency room taking care of people who have this and I couldn't help myself. I am different now because of the program. I'm living life, I am connected. I feel more energetic. I enjoy silly things. I used to say that I just didn't have time for that. If I wouldn't have found the program I think I would still be on a very dark road. - Mona

I'm looking forward to life now knowing all of the skills and all of the useful information from the Attacking Anxiety and Depression Program. It will change the way you live, change the way you eat, change the way you exercise. This program has made me look at life and the way I feel in ways I never had before. - Victor

Before I found the program I had trouble just walking out to the mailbox to get the mail. I thought I was going to drop over and die or faint. After the program, everything's changed. I'm just glad that I can live my life and not be afraid of what people think. I'm not afraid to go for my dreams, I don't sit around and wait as life passes my by. - Elizabeth

I first started experiencing anxiety and panic attacks when I was in college. I didn't understand what was happening so I started isolating myself and I started drinking more. I started feeling better when I first got the program. Life now to me is very good. There is more for me to do and I can do anything if I put my mind to it. - Roderick
